Mineral and Pigment Dewatering
The VSEP technology employs torsional oscillation of the membrane along with wide spacing. The shear generated from this resonance allows for fast filtration is high solids and viscous materials. Many mineral and pigment slurries contain very small colloids that will not settle easily and do not have enough density for dewatering with a centrifuge. The old time method of dewatering can be using a filter press. But these devices will result in a leaky filter and a lot of the product will be lost in the filtrate. The footprint of this kind of equipment is also enormous.
VSEP can quickly and efficiently remove water using an ultrafiltration (UF) membrane that will reject and concentrate 100% of suspended solids. The VSEP is a liquid filtration system and so the material must remain liquid and able to flow to be filtered. The transition point between liquid and solid will be different for every kind of slurry. But VSEP has reached 70% solids in the case of Titanium Dioxide pigment dewatering. For Calcium Carbonate, we have reached 60% solids.
There are many applications of dewatering where VSEP has been deployed including:
- Titanium Dioxide
- Calcium Carbonate
- Carbon Black
- Graphite
- Colloidal Silica
- Kaolin Clay
- Bentonite Clay
- Lead Chromate
- Iron Oxide
- Indigo Dye
